TRUSTEES

We currently have six trustees. Lyndon Rowlands is the longest serving and became Chair in December last year. Other village organisations are invited to nominate trustees and Julia Hitchcock represents the scouting user group. Suzanne Chilcott, Liz Davies and Jon Penn offered their services at last year's AGM and Alun Jones was co-opted onto the committee earlier this year. It would be wonderful to have a larger group of trustees to share the workload and anyone who is interested can offer their services at any time.

For anyone who would prefer to be voted on to the committee by attendees at the AGM, nominations would be welcomed. Full details are on the hall website and nominations must be received by Friday September 18.

Helping the community as a hall trustee is very rewarding. Recent research by the Charity Commission found that 80% of charity trustees would recommend it to others. SEE BELOW

ELECTIONS

The CIO constitution (link) offers the opportunity for local residents to put themselves forward as potential trustees in two ways. The simplest is to talk to an existing trustee and express your interest. The trustees can then consider your offer and co-opt you.

An alternative is to be elected at the AGM. Anyone aged 18 or over can be nominated for election as trustees at the AGM. For that to happen, the CIO must receive a request from a resident that 1) states their intention to propose the election of a person as a charity trustee 2) contains the details that the charity would have to file with the Charity Commission (full name, residential address, email address, phone number, date of birth) and 3) is signed by the person who is to be proposed advising his or her willingness to be nominated and elected. 

That request must be received not less than fourteen days before the AGM and not more than thirty-five clear days before the AGM. This year, that would mean nominations need to be received between August 28 and September 18. Please email any nominations to admin@devaudenhall.org   Nominations must be submitted in advance - you cannot be nominated at the meeting.

Every year, at the AGM, all trustees currently serving must resign and, if they wish, offer themselves for re-election at the meeting. Resignations take effect at the end of the AGM.

VOLUNTEERS

The hall also benefits from a number of volunteers. Some come along regularly to help set up marquees for events, or to staff the car park and the ticket desk. Others offer valuable assistance by managing the hall bar stock and running the bar at those events. If you would like to add your name to our list of volunteers, please email admin@devaudenhall.org

We are very keen to find a new person or group of people to manage this website and associated publicity activity such as global emails. No previous experience is necessary - the systems we use are easy to learn and follow and a full handover and ongoing support would be provided. A background in design, computers, communications or similar would be a great advantage but really not necessary. It would qualify as volunteering for the Duke of Edinburgh award or similar.
